Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Wrexham
Over 10,000 boats and over 25,000 pedestrians each year use the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Wrexham. At 1000 feet long and 126 feet above the River Dee, this impressive construction is celebrating its bicentenary this year.
Built at a cost of £45,000 back in 1805, it was designed by the Thomas Telford and it took ten years to complete. Campaigners are pushing to have this, the largest aqueduct in Britain, awarded world heritage status.
Wrexham Council have arranged a programme of celebrations to mark the bicentenary and they take place today, Sunday the 26th of November.
