No mains electricity?!
The Western Mail’s story “Mains power lights up valley that time forgot” makes interesting reading.
A small community in South Wales, near Neath, have been connected to the National Grid for the first time. As the story states, a number of farms have had to rely on wood, coal and recently a generator, to produce their heat and light. Now, in 2005 (!!!) they have finally been connected to mains electricity - but at a cost. It will cost the community £80,000 to be ‘wired up’.
One of the residents said: “What I’m really looking forward to is having a computer. I’ve already booked lessons as I’ve never used one before.”
Good luck to them! What a Christmas this will be.
