1976 Sex Pistols hit Caerffili
To commemorate a 1976 singing clash between punk rockers the Sex Pistols and local mothers and church groups, a punk rock festival will be held (as it is every year) at a local rugby club. 30 years on, the councillor who organized the protest against the Sex Pistols (and, indeed, led the protestors in carols) expressed regret for his part in the protest stating “I was conducting the carols and when I look back now and see the couple of young people creeping in there I feel absolutely and thoroughly ashamed of myself.”
“I’ve got some great regrets when I look back at it because who am I, a fuddy-duddy councillor, to tell young people what they should listen to, what they should enjoy and how they should conduct themselves and their lives?”
