“Dim Ysmygu” - if you grew up in Wales then you’d know what that means - just like you know what ‘Araf’ and ‘Gwasanaethau’ mean (’Slow’ and ‘Services’ respectively - road signs).

However, as Assembly Member Glyn Davies reports, the Welsh Assembly have decided to implement a new sign reading: ‘Mae ysmygu yn y fangre hon yn erbyn y gyfraith’.  Catchy, huh?!  This translates to: ‘It is against the law to smoke in these premises’.  But as Glyn Davies points out “…no-one has ever heard of this word ‘Fangre’“.

All this is in preparation for next year’s ban on smoking in enclosed public places.  The new law comes into force on the 2nd of April 2007.
