The Rugby Board Room Wars

Until a few days ago I was blissfully ignorant of the laundry list of accusations against Mike Cuddy for some alleged crooked dealings:

  • Committing a criminal offence by installing his wife as a front for himself as director of Neath Rugby Limited;
  • Forging his wife’s signature on documents
  • Making secret profits from player deals;
  • Reaching an agreement to allow Neath RFC to host a certain number of lucrative Ospreys’ games.

You know what amazes me about people in these power-hungry positions? Why enough isn’t ever enough! And since it isn’t they put everyone in jeopardy by their own selfish need for greed.

Now I’m not going to set myself up for a lawsuit by expressing how I really feel about this kind of situation or the people involved in it. But whether Hawkes is right or Cuddy is right, if the circumstances surrounding the whole thing force the loss of a great team like the Ospreys then it doesn’t really matter, does it? Because the ones who lose are not these two individuals, they’ll keep their millions and move on to the next game…erm….board room. It’s the fans and the players and the sport that will take the hit for their bad behaviour. And that, my friends, is the real crying shame of the whole thing.
