Revisiting the Swansea Bay Strategy

Well, we’re getting close to the end of the public comment period on the revitalization of Swansea Bay (comments due by the end of June). You might recall I mentioned this plan in a previous article.

Moving into the consultation process will give us some exhibitions - that should help everyone visualize what’s in the plan. The public exhibition will begin on June 28th at Swansea Council County Hall. It will remain there until August 10. There will be other locations as well:

Mumbles Library from June 28 to July 15.
Wales National Pool from July 16 to July 29.
Wales National Museum from July 30 to August 10.

Again, the areas being looked at for revitalization are the city waterfront, St Helen’s, Sketty Lane, Blackpill, Mumbles and Mumbles Pier; and the idea is to fix up what’s there without significantly impacting the natural environmental.

After the consulation period, public comments will be considered and any revisions made to the Strategy before the plan is finalized.

Cllr Gareth Sullivan, said: “Swansea is already a well-known tourist destination with stunning natural scenery on its doorstep but this Strategy suggests a great deal more can be done with the seafront area to enhance our reputation as a 21st century destination. “The proposals are very exciting and will play a key role in our vision of Swansea becoming a European city of distinction by 2020.”

Well, from a personal standpoint I’d like to see Swansea have that distinction. But I hope it won’t mean the city will grow into an uncontrolled sprawl.

At any rate, you can see the whole Plan on the web from June 28 on at www.swansea.gov.uk/swanseabaystrategy. (You won’t find it now, I know. I tried. :O)
