Something New (and sorely needed) on the Green Front

_44019447_tyregenic1_bbcgrab_203.jpgA firm in Port Talbot has found a way to deal with the tons of used tyres that heretofore have found their way into gardens, empty lots and the bottom of gullies. The company uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the rubber and then, when brittle, smashes them into tiny bits for reuse. They call it rubber “crumb”. What could be more perfect!

The company, TyreGenics UK will be employing 25 people as well and says that other by-products are also created such as steel and fibre that will now be reusable. Apparently they sort the crumb and grade it so it can be sent to an appropriate facility for re-use. They’ve got the support of the Welsh Assembly Government and the company is a joint venture between Credential Environmental, BOC Gases and Field Turf Inc. (A Canadian firm.)
