Is One Loo Really Enough Then?

The folks on the beach at Aberavon probably don’t think so - at least they didn’t Friday afternoon.

With the only public toilet facility for miles closed by rescue operations all afternoon, it goes without saying the local pubs were doing a bang up business as desperate people found their way into town and the public houses for relief.

Apparently a 12-year-old girl was standing on the edge of the toilet early on and fell in. Trouble was her foot went down the hole and stayed there!

Much to her mortification, I’m sure, firefighters were called to extract the wedged foot but were unable to do so. The ordeal ended three hours later as the firefighters removed the toilet from its moorings and an ambulance transported the girl and her new footwear to Morriston Hospital. Two firefighters rode with her continuing their efforts to remove said appliance from her foot and, finally a group effort by doctors, nurses and firemen freed her later at Morriston.

I don’t expect she’ll be standing on public toilets again any time soon.
