Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire - Jerome Bartens, 11, had been diagnosed as deaf in his right year at the age of 2. Stuck in there for the past nine years, the 1cm long bud apparently ’snapped off’ when Jerome was a toddler until recently when out it popped out.

At time of writing, this is the most read story in the UK on the BBC News website.

A lesson to all of us - don’t stick cotton buds in your ears. It does warn us on the pack!
