Oops!
Seems Mr. Bob Dewey of the Wrexham planning dept. has put his foot in more than a bit of bother with his comments regarding the Welsh identity of Rhostyllen. Mr. Dewey contends that the guideline put forth by the Wrexham Council which reads: ‘no new development should have an adverse affect on Welsh identity and or language’ is ‘not applicable in this case because Rhostyllen doesn’t have a sense of Welsh identity’. Ergo the National Trust won’t adversely impact the Welsh identity or language if they build a substantial number of houses on their landholdings in the area. Needless to say, the populace of Wrexham was not amused.
Nor was Cymuned’s Carrie Harper who put it very nicely, in my opinion when she said: “I am absolutely astounded by Mr Dewey’s comments. He is part of the planning committee and responsible for making decisions on behalf of the people of Wrecsam. If a ward that has over 80% of its population born in Wales has no Welsh identity, I dread to think what lies in store for the rest of Wrexham.” Da iawn Carrie!
