Cardiff Castle

Postby Shaun on Sat May 28, 2005 11:21 pm

Whose been to Cardiff Castle?
Own up, put your hands in the air.

Well anyone been down to the Roman wall? Yes!
Well did you take notice of a mural containing many panels about the Silurians in Wales and running for about a couple of hundred feet on the oposite side of the corridor where the wall is?

The mural is made out of concrete and plaster and shows almost full size figures going around their daily business and at the end there are other full size figures including a horse.

According to Cadiff Castle, a local artist named Frank Abraham produced this mural (and it shoud be seen), unfortunately Frank Abraham is not local to Cardiff because he was born and bred in Newport and is my cousin.

Frank is now 92 and still going strong.

I'll post some photo's of the mural if I have any.

Some photo's of the Mural that Frank Abraham created by hand out of cement and plaster.

The opposite wall is the original Roman wall of Cardiff Castle.

Wow, never knew all that was in Cardiff Castle!

I'm going to have to pay that place a visit. I've seen it from the outside but never thought of going inside.

It's now on my list of things to do!

Thanks.

There's an awful lot more there than the photo's I just posted. You can take the tour, there's two military museums and if you like heights then you can climb to the top of the Motte and get a view across Cardiff.

There's plenty of open space as well along with all of the Peacocks and Peahens straying around.

Well worth a visit.

Cardiff Castle

Postby Rhiannon on Sat Sep 03, 2005 4:04 pm

Those photos are fantastic, I wish I could have seen that when I went & visited the Castle with my sister 2 years ago. I have lived in Mtn Ash all my life & have only gone down to Cardiff for shopping or to go & see a movie, then 4 years ago we moved to Spain to live, but then 2 years ago I went home for 4 days for a visit to see my family, my sister & I went to Cardiff for a day out & decided to take the tour around the Castle, why I never done it earlier I'll never know, it is beautiful, but to me I wanted to see more of the Castle and not just some of it, hopefully I will get to go again. Thank you for the photos & tell your relative he has worked his magic, they are something to be pround of.

The castle is great and the military memrobillia is worth a look. Also just behind you have Bute Park a huge area of open space and beauty, ideal for cycling or just a leisurely walk 8)

Many thanks for the photos and information. I'll be back in Wales next year sometime. I'll make a point of visiting there, my 11 yr old would love that stuff.

I love Cardiff Castle, I do know others in Cardiff and Newport who have never set foot inside oddly. The murals underground are very interesting indeed, it's so odd putting your hand on a Roman Wall that's existed for many centuries.

If walls could talk, eh?

We went by the outside whilst there but it was late in the day and we had to head back to catch one of the Eisteddfod venues. But it's definitely on my list of castles for the next visit. I was really impressed with the exterior and the park next to it is lovely. In fact, I was surprised (don't ask me why) at what a pretty city is Cardiff. I quite liked it, although I expect I'd never be able to afford to live there. :?
