More on Quoting Posts

By the same token, if you remove one of the opening quote tags, you will have an extra closing tag, the two messages will merge together and you'll get a closing tag as part of the text. Like so:

I think you're full of beans, Arwen!
Sioni wrote:Here's some stuff that Sioni said. Notice it's located between a set of opening and closing quote tags. The opening tag says "Sioni".
But Arwen has quoted Sioni and written some other stuff. Arwen was the latest person to do the quoting so her opening quote tag starts the whole sheebang and ends it as well.[/quote]

Notice how Arwen's message is no longer part of the quoted message. Instead, it's now become part of this new message.

So when you are quoting someone's post, be sure and leave in all the opening and closing quote tags that are automatically inserted by the forum software.

And you can take out part of the original quote and have it still make sense, as long as you pay attention to the opening and closing tags. :)

Regarding quotes, does this forum have a multi quote option? Or would i have to code it myself?

I'm not sure what you mean by multi-quote. :?

Ok, heres an examlpe, in a thread there may well be two or three sections or different members you wish to quote, so instead of you, yourself typing in the code, an option that automatically does it for you.

Looking at the board i believe phb dont offer it.

You do have the option of using the buttons above the compose window to make that easier. For example:

and then

Arwen wrote:I'm not sure what you mean by multi-quote. :?

All you have to do is add who the quotes are into the code. This is fairly easy since the whole thread is reviewed below the compose window, so you can browse through there to get your quotes. You just have to be sure you know who you're quoting!

Want to write the code for us Baz? It sounds like a good idea, but I am not even quite sure what you mean. Perhaps you just need to go to extra work and do it manually. :D

I think it does have to be done manually. But the definitive word will come from David (forumLead for the new folks) the next time he's on. Seems like a question that goes to the programming of the site rather than the implementation of the tools. :?

Personally i think its just the PHP software doesn't have it.

It might only be a function available on Invision, which is what some of the other forums i use, have installed.
