impersonal use of irregular verbs

Postby Carmeini on Thu May 03, 2012 11:38 am

I am doing Unit 13 of Cwrs Canolradd.
This is dealing with the “impersonal”, “yr amhersonol”.
My question is about the use of the impersonal use of the irregular verbs such as “mynd â” or “dod o hyd i”
Examples are given of regular verbs used “impersonally” and orally, “ar lafar”.
Agorwyd yr ysbyty. Cafodd yr ysbyty ei agor.
Anafwyd y dringwr. Cafodd y dringwr ei anafu.

My difficulty is trying to work out corresponding “ar lafar” ways of using “mynd â” or “dod o hyd i”
The child was taken to hospital.
Aed/Aethpwyd â’r plentyn i’r ysbyty.
Can the “Cafodd y plentyn ............” construction be used with “mynd â”?

I think the news usually says:
Aed/Aethpwyd â’r plentyn i’r ysbyty. / Cafodd y plentyn ei gludo i'r ysbyty
Daethpwyd o hyd i'r allwedd. / Cafodd yr allwedd ei ffeindio
- but that means using a different verb.

You could go for:
Euthon nhw â’r plentyn i’r ysbyty
Or something like that, couldn't you?

Yes I think that is probably the best way to say it but I must admit I have never seen "Euthon nhw" before. I am assuming it is the same as "aethon nhw"
